Racing To Read News
Thursday, May 24th
After collecting all of the sheets we have declared a winner! Mrs. Solomon’s Class at Northumberland Hills Public School in Castleton has won themselves a pizza party at the Speedway on Saturday, June 2nd.
In a close second was Ms. Nascimento’s class from Brighton Public School, followed by Ms. Lindt’s class from Brighton as well and Ms. Beckenham’s class from VP Carswell in Trenton.
The overall participation was lower this year and as we plan ahead for 2013 we will ensure that the Grade 3 EQAO Testing doesn’t conflict as it has this year.
Each participating student will recieve a participation certificate, a ticket for themselves and a guardian to join us at the races on June 2nd as well as a medallion from Cold Stone Creamery.
Our appreciation to all teachers and administration in our participating schools for their help, and a great big Thank You as well to our spokesman and racing hero, #11 Corey Earl.
We look forward to seeing you at the race!

The Race to Read program is used to encourage students in grade 3 to read outside of school, which in turn helps to promote literacy within our communities. The time they spend reading is logged along with their parent’s signature and then returned to the school.
We are currently at the end of week one and eagerly awaiting results from all the participating schools to come in for an interim report.
We look forward to seeing all participants on Saturday, June 5nd for a night at the races.
Angela
