FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Brighton Speedway Race Report
September 16, 2012
With fall weather quickly approaching the large crowd of race fans bundled up for Rapid Rad’s presentation of round two of the Workman Auto Repair School Bus Race and double points night for the Bainer’s Radiators Canadian Modifieds, Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks and the Bill’s Johns Comp 4 Divisions.
The smooth and tacky track surface made for great racing all night long and was in great shape as the Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks took the green flag. #83 Jay O’Hara would get out to the early lead and not look back taking the checkered flag after 20 laps. Following O’Hara would be #23 Rob Perry, #74 Mike Lucas, #36 Mitch Rosborough and newcomer 2X Lee Winger. O’Hara’s double win on the night was enough to earn him the Campbellford Chrysler Driver of the Week award.
The near capacity crowd anxiously anticipated the Start of the Workman Auto Repair School Bus races were up next for a 15 lap battle. Down a few busses from the regular bus count the drivers that did make it to the feature were intent on making sure it was an exciting race to watch. #9 Derek “Maestro” Vreugdenhil and #77 Brenie Rhebergen were not long making their way to the front. The two passed each other a number of times while trying to contend with lapped traffic. It all came down to the final corner on the last lap when Vreugdenhil dove to the inside of #325 Del “Chili” MacGregor but Rhebergen would make a bonzia move down the inside of Vreugdenhil making it four wide going into turn three. Rhebergen’s move proved to be the winning move as he came out of turn four in the lead however Maestro was pushing him sideways and Rhebergen actually passed the flag stand pointing at the wall but still in front for the win.
Third to the feature line were the Bainer’s Radiator Canadian Modifieds as the night progressed. Reigning Champion Dan Ferguson did all he could in order to lock up the points title for a second year in a row and his third Bainer’s Radiator Championship overall by winning the double point’s event. Ferguson was followed by #91Kraig Handley, #18 Kevin Scott, #12 Adam Whaley and #13 Dale Locke.
The fourth and final feature to the 1/3rd mile clay oval was the Bill’s Johns Comp 4 division in a 20 lap double point’s battle. Rookie Tom Vance held the lead for most of the race but #03 Justin Ramsay was fighting hard to overtake him. At the line was Vance, followed by #10 Travis McLean, #66 Mark Packer and #88 Dave Fargey to round out the top 5.
