NOCO Fuels and ROCK 107 present SOS at Brighton
BRIGHTON, Ont. – Brighton Speedway is set to welcome the Sanderson’s Tire and Automotive Southern Ontario Sprints for their season opener on Saturday night, presented by NOCO Fuels and ROCK 107. The winged warriors make their return on night two of the 2014 season, which will also feature the Vanderlaan Building Supplies Pro Late Models, Bill’s Johns Comp 4s, and round one of the Larry’s Towing Triple Crown for the Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks. Chris Jones (No.11J) enters the season fresh off his first SOS championship. Jones has already raced in 2014, at Can-Am Speedway in April, with the Empire Super Sprint. Several drivers will make their first start of the season at Brighton on Saturday, while others will fire the engine for the first time Friday night at Ohsweken Speedway. The Vanderlaan Building Supplies Pro Late Models got off to a hot start last weekend with a ferocious battle between Charlie Sandercock (No.57 Bellevue Excavating) and Steve Baldwin (No.5 cigarchief.com). Sandercock led all 30 laps to earn the win, but several drivers looked strong on opening night. Look for top-five finishes this week from Greg Belyea (No.25 Excel Tower Services), David McDonald (No.97 McDonald Homes), and Adam Turner (No.92 Village Variety). However, several drivers proved themselves to be strong last weekend, and victory lane is a free for all.
Similarly in the Brighton Automotive Pro Stock division, Justin Ramsay (No.03 Empey Tire) and Doug Anderson (No.72) dueled to the final corner with Ramsay holding off the defending champ. Leslie Mowat (No.2 Cormer’s Auto Recycling) was also strong in her third-place finish. With the first round of the Larry’s Towing triple crown on tap, expect an intense race.
Last week’s Bill’s Johns Comp 4 feature provided a seesaw battle for the lead between eventual winner Brady Greer (No.94 Greer Excavating), Rich Sanders (No.29 Fowl Mood Racing), and Terry Hough (No.32). Cousins Courtney Mastin (No.97 Grosse Construction) and Emily Weedman (No.87 Nate’s Auto Cosmedix) suffered through some mechanical problems and will look to improve their finish along with fan’s choice best appearing winner Shelby Mills (No.78 Dibbit’s Excavating). Fans can anticipate an even closer finish this week.
Racing gets underway at its usual 7:00pm start time. Spectator gates open at 5:30pm with hot laps scheduled to fly at 6:00pm. Get to the track early to grab a seat for the Southern Ontario Sprints season opener.
Annual Chili Contest this Saturday
The 4th annual Brighton Speedway Chili contest will run at Harry’s Place in turn four prior to the first green flag of the night. Contestants will have to try and unseed multi-time chili and defending Stinger champion Del MacGregor. Contestants are asked to bring their chili submission before 5:00pm on race night. Fans can fill out a ballot for Best Tasting Chili and Most Original Name. Prizes for the contest are provided by Budweiser.
Mills, Brady Greer make ‘Search for Speed’ finals
Bill’s Johns Comp 4 drivers Brady Greer and Shelby Mills have been selected as dirt finalists for the Fast Eddie Racewear four cylinder Search for Speed contest. The contest winner will win a Fast Eddie hat and t-shirt prize pack. Vote for Greer or Mills once per day, per device at http://beta.fasteddieracewear.com/search-for-speed/.
Alix Woods update Quinte Septic Stingers driver Alix Woods (No.38) returned to school this week after a hard hit in to the turn four tire barrier turned her upside down on opening night. Woods has some soreness and a minor knee injury, but did not suffer any serious injuries as a result of the hard crash.
