Sandercock Gets Back on Track during Action Packed Week Two
It was a full card of racing Saturday at the 1/3rd mile oval as Town and Country Plumbing presented Dollar Dog Night! 2010 Late Model Champion Charlie Sandercock who had a disappointing week one with a blown engine in the heat came back with vengeance winning the Vanderlaan’s Late Model Feature by a full straight over last week’s winner Corey Earl in front of a big crowd that was on hand.
First feature of the night featured the Bainer’s Radiator Canadian Modifieds. Sixteen cars would take the green flag as #1 Shawn Gregory and #84 Wally Alderdice would lead the field around. Alderdice would drop back early and it would be last year’s champion #11 Dan Ferguson and last week’s winner #19 Zeke McKeown who would make their way through the field and to the front. The two would battle back and forth throughout the race with McKeown taking the lead. Late in the race #8 Zac McBride would spin collecting the #11 of Ferguson sending Ferguson to the back with not enough laps to come back through the field. McKeown would go on to pick up his second win in as many weeks while Alderdice was able to make his way back through the field after his early race slip up to finish a competitive second behind McKeown.
The Bill’s Johns Comp 4 feature was up next and this would be the first of three Northumberland Tire 20 lap Triple Crown events. 27 Comp 4’s filled the pits on Saturday causing officials to have a B-Main event and 24 cars to start the A-main feature. #46 Warren Mowat would overcome his first week’s bad luck to lead the feature while being chased by the #03 Justin Ramsey and #17 Jeff Humphry in an exciting race to the checkers.
The Vanderlaan’s building Supplies Late Models were the third feature to hit the track. #57 Charlie Sandercock and #77 Caley Weese would lead the field to green. The two would battle side by side for a number of laps with #25 of Greg Belyea and #87 Andrew Hennessy sticking their nose in the mix. By lap 4 Sandercock had broken away for the lead while the battle for second raged on behind him. Belyea would have to go to the pits and on lap 8 and Weese jumped the top cushion opening the door for last week’s winner #11 Corey Earl. Earl was able to keep pace with Sandercock but was not able to reel him in. Even after a late race caution Sandercock would jump out to the lead and cruise to victory. Earl would follow up with second and Hennessy with his second consecutive top 3!
#19 Del MacGregor nicknamed “Chili MacGregor” by track announcers for winning the 2011 Annual Chili contest last May at the track, dominated the debut of the Quinte Septic Stingers! His double win earned Chili MacGregor Campbellford Chrysler Driver of the Week honors which is fitting because this week when is car is on display in the courtyard Del will be defending his title in the 2nd Annual Chili Contest that takes place this Saturday night in Turn 4.
The Pro Stock Feature saw 2011 Champion, Doug “the Big Smooth” Anderson follow in Warren Mowat and Charlie Sandercock’s footsteps. Anderson had on week one as well suffer disappointment as he had a transmission failure resulting in a last place finish. Anderson started on the poll and would waste no time jumping out to the early lead and did not look back for a green to checker win. #2 Leslie Mowat would finish second for the second week in a row and #83 Jay O’Hara last week’s winner would maneuver his way through the field to a third place finish.
The Comp 4 division also featured a mechanics race that was won by Tyler French in #03 Justin Ramsey’s car.
