Vanderlaan Building Products and Bay Marine present the Southern Ontario Sprints this Saturday
BRIGHTON (June 12, 2014) – A full night of excitement is set for Brighton Speedway as the Sanderson’s Tire and Automotive Southern Ontario Sprints (SOS) make their second appearance of the season this Saturday night. Longtime speedway sponsors Vanderlaan Building Products and Bay Marine present the full night of action which also features the Vanderlaan Pro Late Models, OilGARD Anti-Rust Canadian Modifieds, and the Bill’s Johns Comp 4s.
Mitch Brown (No.10b) won the SOS season opener at Brighton on May 17 and Rick Wilson (No.42w) followed in second. This Saturday marks the third race on the tour this season and Glenn Styres (No.0) enters as the points leader. Brown is 34 markers back of Styres in second. Defending series champion Chris Jones (No.11J) is third. The fire-breathing, winged warriors with an attitude were 23 strong in their season opener. There is no reason to expect any fewer cars Saturday.
The Vanderlaan Building Products Pro Late Models season has been nothing short of five-start entertainment. Four different drivers have won over five weeks. After last week’s win, Charlie Sandercock (No.57 Bellevue Fabricating) became the first driver to win twice and currently holds a 60-point lead over Steve Baldwin (No.5 cigarchief.com) in the championship standings. Phil Potts (No.29 Vanderlaan) is riding a wave of momentum after his Go Nuclear! series win last Sunday at Cornwall Motor Speedway. So is Adam Turner (No.92 Village Variety), who finished second at Cornwall by just .011 seconds.
It took until last week for the OilGARD Anti-Rust Canadian Modified division to produce its first repeat winner and Andrew Hennessy (No.87 Custom Automotive) did so in dominating fashion. The feature win was Hennessy’s 100th checkered flag since the 2001 season. He enters the night with a 20-point lead over defending champion Ryan Scott (No.33), who has yet to find victory lane. Adam Whaley (No.12 John’s Equipment), Dan Ferguson (No.11 Kilmarnock Enterprise), and Doug O’Blenis (No.13 John’s Car Care) complete the top-five in the standings.
It’s been difficult for anybody without the last name ‘Greer’ to steal a win in the Bill’s Johns Comp 4 division. Brady Greer (No.94 Greer Excavating) has won three main events this year, including a pair of Triple Crown races, while brother Riley (No.47 Clark’s Automotive) won on May 31. Terry Hough (No.32 The Vinyl Solution) is the only other driver to find the Winner’s Circle. Despite the rough finish last week, Hough holds a 50-point cushion over Rich Sanders (No.29 Fowl Mood Racing). Brady is third after a DNF in week three set him back.
An error in the original speedway schedule stated the Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks would also be in action this Saturday. The Pro Stocks will not race on June 14, instead returning to action on June 20.
The always-exciting Sprint Cars are set to breathe all kinds of excitement at Brighton on Saturday night. Racing starts at its usual time, 7:00pm on Vanderlaan Building Supplies and Bay Marine night. Hot laps will roll at 6:00pm after the spectator gates open at 5:30pm.
Special admission pricing is in effect for all SOS shows in 2014. Adult admission is $20, while youths and seniors are $18. Children between 7-12 are just $5. A family pass is $55 and offers admission for two adults and two children.
